IOWANS CALL ON UNITYPOINT TO BE RESPONSIBLE EMPLOYER AS NURSES FIGHT TO UNIONIZE
Nurses Gather Community Support Ahead of Election to Become Teamsters
DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, September 24, in support of nurses at UnityPoint Health, representatives from the Iowa community will demonstrate outside the employer's corporate office in West Des Moines as nurses vote to join Teamsters Local 90 from October 5-7.
The Iowa community is outraged by an aggressive union-busting campaign waged by UnityPoint and spearheaded by CEO Scott Kizer and Nursing Director Sarah Brown. Rather than investing in patient care and nurse safety, the multibillion-dollar health care giant has spent between $3.7 million and $6.1 million to try to stop workers from becoming Teamsters.
Representatives from the Iowa community will be joined by labor, clergy, and other supporters. They will call on UnityPoint to adhere to its core values and be a responsible employer by ceasing its egregious anti-union campaign.
