Pipe Network Launches Mainnet
- Pipe Network enters its Mainnet phase following the successful launch of the first decentralized CDN for Solana and an accompanying storage solution, Pipe Firestarter
- Since launching in private testnet at the beginning of 2025, the Pipe Network has seen over 60PB of content served with 70% decrease in latency (compared to traditional CDNs) across a global network of ~290,000 PoP nodes
- Further enhancements to the Pipe Network and rewards for early contributors planned
NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Pipe Network, the permissionless, hyper-local content delivery network (CDN) built for Solana, today announced the launch of its Mainnet and native token $PIPE, following the completion of a successful testnet that started at the beginning of 2025.
During this testnet period, the Pipe Network has delivered 60+ petabytes of data with over 1 billion files transferred—70% faster and 100 times more cost-efficient than traditional CDNs—aross a global network of over 290,000 Point of Presence ("PoP") nodes. To date, the network has burnt approximately 2.5 million $PIPE testnet tokens.
David Rhodus, Founder of Permissionless Labs, a core contributor to the Pipe Network, commented on the news, "We see this mainnet launch as a signal that our decentralized CDN is ready to go live and compete against the offerings from Cloudflare, Fastly, Akami, and web2 stalwarts of the world. When it comes to large-scale users of content delivery networks like Netflix and Amazon Prime, performance and uptime, particularly at the edge where their networks are traditionally weakest, are the biggest priorities. Our growing network of close to 300,000 PoP nodes globally is a testament to the efficacy of our dePIN-enabled model to provide best-in-class service for customers. This critical mainnet phase, where we plan to make this network publicly available at minimal cost, is a significant unlock in enabling the next generation of decentralized applications by leveraging the pipes that will deliver the 'new oil' or data that will power them."
Since the beginning of its testnet phase, the Pipe Network has added several key features including:
- Pipe Content Delivery Network ("CDN") - the flagship CDN solution that has been live since the beginning of the testnet phase and has been used to store key Solana data including network snapshots which saw a 30% increase in download times when served via the Pipe CDN and most recently added the entire Solana archival data set.
- zkTCP and zkQUIC - advanced iterations of the well-known TCP and QUIC network protocols, known as zero-knowledge Transmission Control Protocol ("zkTCP") and zero-knowledge Quick UDP Internet Connections ("zkQUIC"), are enhanced using zero-knowledge cryptographic proofs to verify the authenticity and correctness of data transfers without needing to expose the underlying data or sensitive network details.
- SolanaWave - an intelligent Solana block explorer API offered as a public good for the Solana developer community which leverages the entire Proof of History data set stored on the Pipe CDN to allow any user to look up any transaction ever recorded to the underlying Solana blockchain from the very first block.
- Pipe Firestarter Storage - Firestarter Storage is the complimentary storage offering released in order to make the Pipe Network a full stack solution that can compete with commonly used centralized alternatives like Cloudflare's R2 & CDN offerings with~2.2 PB1 used in its first month of launch. Firestarter Storage hosts Solana's full block history of 1PB with 350M files, growing by 20 files per minute.
- The Pipe Network's native $PIPE token, which can be used to purchase services provided by the network, will be listed for sale across a variety of venues starting Wednesday, October 8. $PIPE powers the world's first permissionless full-stack cloud — a decentralized platform built on two foundational pillars: Pipe Firestarter storage and its flagship Pipe CDN. $PIPE is more than a digital asset — it is backed by tangible utility. Every token reflects measurable activity on the network: gigabytes of content stored, terabytes of bandwidth delivered, milliseconds of latency reduced.
Following the mainnet launch, Pipe Network will work with Jito Foundation to introduce a liquid stake delegation program, designed to increase performance and decentralization in the underlying network and reward long-term oriented contributors to the protocol. Pipe Network will delegate staked PIPE to PoP nodes according to a criteria that optimizes for bandwidth and uptime, and stakers will receive rewards for participating in the program. Early node operators will be entitled to rewards for their participation and related efforts, with further details to be disclosed post-launch.
Pipe Network plans to continue releasing complementary service offerings that will allow it to compete with the full stack offerings from more centralized competitors, while bolstering the resilience of its network with a planned PoP Node Upgrade due sometime before Q4.
