Toyota executives predict President Donald Trump's automobile tariffs will cost the company $1.3 billion in April and May earnings. The automaker, which reported its highest-ever annual profit last year, according to the New York Times, expects profit to decline by roughly 20% in the current fiscal year, it said on Thursday. The world's top-selling car manufacturer said it expected operating income to total 3.8 trillion yen ($26 billion) in the year to March 2026, versus 4.8 trillion yen (33 billion) in the year that just ended."Whether these tariffs are permanent or not, and what will happen is not something we can decide," Chief Executive Koji Sato said during a media briefing. TESLA LAUNCHES TEST RUN FOR FSD SUPERVISED, AN AI-POWERED RIDE HAILING SERVICEToyota's results also show how the tariffs have the potential to hit companies on a number of fronts simultaneously.
