Virginia Housing Receives National Council of State Housing Agencies Award for Program Excellence in Management Innovation

Awardees represent programs and practices that effectively address affordable housing challenges

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Virginia Housing was recently recognized for the Virginia Housing Fellows Program during the 2025 National Council of State Housing Agencies' (NCSHA) Annual Awards for Program Excellence. The Awards for Program Excellence honor state housing finance agencies (HFAs) annually for their outstanding public-purpose programs and practices. 

"The Virginia Housing Fellows Program is an innovative human resource management initiative that is attracting talent to Virginia Housing and strengthening our operations, while also providing benefits to our nonprofit partners," said Virginia Housing CEO Tammy Neale. "This program introduces a new generation of professionals with diverse backgrounds to Virginia's affordable housing community."

Launched in 2023, the Virginia Housing Fellows Program is a two-year, full-time, salaried fellowship program designed to equip high-potential, early-career individuals with the knowledge and experience necessary to drive innovation and positive changes for both the organization and Virginia Housing's nonprofit partners in Virginia's affordable housing sector. The program provides hands-on, substantive projects that allow Fellows to develop leadership, analytical and industry-specific skills while contributing to the mission of the entities that they support.

Established in 1984, NCSHA's Annual Awards for Program Excellence identify and elevate industry best practices and encourage continued HFA innovation. The winners were announced on Oct. 6 during NCSHA's 2025 Annual Conference, which was attended by more than 1,000 HFA executive directors, staff, board members and their industry partners.
