FM Cho briefly meets with Rubio at G7 meeting amid holdup in joint fact sheet

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has briefly met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers' meeting in Canada, the foreign ministry said Thursday, amid a protracted delay in the release of a joint document on trade and security. Both Cho and Rubio attended the two-day gathering in the Niagara Region, Ontario, from Tuesday (local time), where Korea was invited as a guest nation, along with Brazil, India and a few others. Whether the two sides would meet has drawn attention because it could give them a chance to discuss releasing the joint fact sheet meant to outline the outcome of the recent leaders' summit, including Seoul's push to secure fuel supplies for nuclear-powered submarines. The document would also provide specifics regarding Korea's $350 billion investment pledge in exchange for the U.S. lowering the tariff on Korean goods to 15 percent from 25 percent.
