Last year, I stayed in a rural village for two months. Garbage trucks did not often come to the small village. The villagers had to get rid of the waste from their houses themselves. They sometimes burnt paper or plastic bags. If you live in Seoul, the waste from your house goes to waste incineration plants at four districts in the city, or to a landfill in another city, Incheon. Of course, sending one’s waste to other areas is not just. Also, if your waste goes somewhere else, not near your house, you are likely not to feel the need to reduce waste because it is difficult to directly experience what effect it can have.
