Supreme Court confirms life sentence, lengthy jail terms in murder case in Pattaya
The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld heavy prison terms for three men for murdering a South Korean tourist last year in Pattaya, Thailand, ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment. The court confirmed life-imprisonment and 30-year terms for two men, aged 28 and 40, respectively, and upheld a 25-year prison term for a 27-year-old on charges of robbery-murder, body abandonment and others. The three were indicted for beating and fatally strangling the 30-something traveler after spiking his drink with a sedative in Pattaya in May last year. They were also charged for placing the body in a barrel and dumping it in a reservoir. Investigations found the defendants made a living off profit from voice phishing scams before deciding to rob South Korean tourists. They were found to have withdrawn money from the victim's account using his phone and even threatened the victim's family members for money after his death. In January, the Changwon District Court sentenced the three to 25- and 30-year terms and life imprisonment, which was later upheld by an appellate court.Weiter zum vollständigen Artikel bei Korea Times
