Highly contagious bird flu case found at laying hen farm in Pyeongtaek

South Korea reported a highly pathogenic avian influenza case at a laying hen farm in southwestern Gyeonggi Province, authorities said Friday. The H5 bird flu was detected at the farm in Pyeongtaek, about 50 kilometers south of Seoul, the Central Disaster Management Headquarters (CDMH) said. The CDMH sent a response team to the farm to take quarantine measures, including access control, culling and an epidemiological analysis. It also issued a 36-hour temporary ban on movements around all hen farms nationwide, related livestock facilities and transport vehicles.
