Launched on November 8, 2017, the John Hancock Multifactor Small Cap ETF (JHSC) is a passively managed exchange traded fund designed to provide a broad exposure to the Small Cap Blend segment of the US equity market.The fund is sponsored by John Hancock. It has amassed assets over $652.49 million, making it one of the average sized ETFs attempting to match the Small Cap Blend segment of the US equity market.Why Small Cap BlendWith more potential comes more risk, and small cap companies, with market capitalization below $2 billion, epitomizes this way of thinking.Blend ETFs are aptly named, since they tend to hold a mix of growth and value stocks, as well as show characteristics of both kinds of equities. The John Hancock Dimensional Small Cap Index is designed to comprise a subset of securities in the U.S. Universe issued by companies whose market capitalizations are smaller than the 750th largest U.S. company but excluding the smallest 4% of U.S. companies at the time of reconstitution.The ETF return is roughly 8.19% so far this year and it's up approximately 2.78% in the last one year (as of 12/17/2025). In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $32.47 and $43.58.The ETF has a beta of 1.03 and standard deviation of 19.07% for the trailing three-year period.
