Designed to provide broad exposure to the Mid Cap Value segment of the US equity market, the State Street SPDR S&P 400 Mid Cap Value ETF (MDYV) is a passively managed exchange traded fund launched on November 8, 2005.The fund is sponsored by State Street Investment Management. It has amassed assets over $2.47 billion, making it one of the larger ETFs attempting to match the Mid Cap Value segment of the US equity market.Why Mid Cap ValueMid cap companies, with market capitalization in the range of $2 billion and $10 billion, offer investors many things that small and large companies don't, including less risk and higher growth opportunities. The S&P MidCap 400 Value Index measures the performance of the mid-capitalization value sector in the U.S. equity market.The ETF return is roughly 8.19% so far this year and is up about 3.92% in the last one year (as of 12/17/2025). In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $66.87 and $87.28.The ETF has a beta of 1.03 and standard deviation of 18.51% for the trailing three-year period, making it a medium risk choice in the space.
