I won't get too technical, but here's the main idea behind quantum computing: Traditional computers, like the one I'm using to write this article, depend on binary "bits" of information -- things that can exist in two states (generally referred to as 0 or 1). If you've ever heard of binary code, this is how it works, by using a combination of zeros and ones to convey information.Unfortunately, this has its limitations in terms of how fast computers can be.Quantum computers, on the other hand, use "qubits," which use the laws of quantum mechanics to exist in many possible states. This is a simplification, and there's quite a bit more to it than this, but that's the basic idea. Theoretically, large-scale quantum computers will eventually be able to solve problems in minutes that would take a traditional computer hundreds of years. This could have massive implications for some of the advanced technologies that are rapidly evolving today, such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and more.Continue readingWeiter zum vollständigen Artikel bei MotleyFool
