Hanbok Culture Week 2025 returns to bring life to Korea's timeless attire

Hanbok Culture Week, an annual nationwide festival celebrating the beauty and heritage of Korea’s traditional attire, will begin its six-day run next week. Organized by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, this year’s edition opens Tuesday under the theme “Modern Hanbokpan, Center of K-Culture.” Festivities will begin with an outdoor fashion show at Uijeongbu Site Historic Square, located just across from Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul, where six brands and 36 models — including figure skater Cha Jun-hwan and model Stefanie Michova — will take to the runway in contemporary reinterpretations of the traditional dress. The evening continues with a high-energy performance by HolyBang, the dance crew that rose to fame after winning “Street Woman Fighter” in 2021. Across the country, a variety of hanbok-themed events are available throughout the week. Among them are clothing exchange markets, where participants can trade garments they no longer want, and “plogging," which combines light jogging with litter collection, all while clad in hanbok.
