Designed to provide broad exposure to the Style Box - Large Cap Value category of the market, the Invesco Large Cap Value ETF (PWV) is a smart beta exchange traded fund launched on 03/03/2005.What Are Smart Beta ETFs?Market cap weighted indexes were created to reflect the market, or a specific segment of the market, and the ETF industry has traditionally been dominated by products based on this strategy.Market cap weighted indexes offer a low-cost, convenient, and transparent way of replicating market returns, and are a good option for investors who believe in market efficiency. There are some investors, though, who think it's possible to beat the market with great stock selection; this group likely invests in another class of funds known as smart beta, which track non-cap weighted strategies.By attempting to pick stocks that have a better chance of risk-return performance, non-cap weighted indexes are based on certain fundamental characteristics, or a combination of such. While this space offers a number of choices to investors, including simplest equal-weighting, fundamental weighting and volatility/momentum based weighting methodologies, not all these strategies have been able to deliver superior results.Fund Sponsor & IndexThe fund is managed by Invesco. PWV has been able to amass assets over $1.21 billion, making it one of the average sized ETFs in the Style Box - Large Cap Value. PWV seeks to match the performance of the Dynamic Large Cap Value Intellidex Index before fees and expenses. The Dynamic Large Cap Value Intellidex Index is designed to provide capital appreciation while maintaining consistent stylistically accurate exposure.Cost & Other ExpensesWhen considering an ETF's total return, expense ratios are an important factor. And, cheaper funds can significantly outperform their more expensive cousins in the long term if all other factors remain equal.Operating expenses on an annual basis are 0.53% for PWV, making it on par with most peer products in the space.PWV's 12-month trailing dividend yield is 2.21%.Sector Exposure and Top HoldingsETFs offer diversified exposure and thus minimize single stock risk, but it is still important to delve into a fund's holdings before investing. Most ETFs are very transparent products and many disclose their holdings on a daily basis.PWV's heaviest allocation is in the Financials sector, which is about 34.1% of the portfolio. Its Energy and Healthcare round out the top three. When you look at individual holdings, International Business Machines Corp (IBM) accounts for about 3.56% of the fund's total assets, followed by At&t Inc (T) and Morgan Stanley (MS).PWV's top 10 holdings account for about 33.9% of its total assets under management.Performance and RiskYear-to-date, the Invesco Large Cap Value ETF has gained about 15.95% so far, and was up about 12.16% over the last 12 months (as of 10/22/2025). PWV has traded between $52.26 $65.41 in this past 52-week period. The fund has a beta of 0.81 and standard deviation of 13.57% for the trailing three-year period, which makes PWV a medium risk choice in this particular space. With about 51 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk .AlternativesInvesco Large Cap Value ETF is a reasonable option for investors seeking to outperform the Style Box - Large Cap Value segment of the market. However, there are other ETFs in the space which investors could consider.Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) tracks Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index and the Vanguard Value ETF (VTV) tracks CRSP U.S. Large Cap Value Index. Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF has $70.33 billion in assets, Vanguard Value ETF has $149.87 billion. SCHD has an expense ratio of 0.06% and VTV changes 0.04%.Investors looking for cheaper and lower-risk options should consider traditional market cap weighted ETFs that aim to match the returns of the Style Box - Large Cap ValueBottom LineTo learn more about this product and other ETFs, screen for products that match your investment objectives and read articles on latest developments in the ETF investing universe, please visit Zacks ETF Center.Boost Your Portfolio with Our Top ETF InsightsZacks' exclusive Fund Newsletter delivers actionable information, top news and analysis, as well as top-performing ETFs, straight to your inbox every week.Don’t miss out on this valuable resource.
