Innovative, student-centered math instruction to reach 75 schools across M-DCPS, supported by grants from the Bezos Family Foundation and Citadel Founder and CEO Ken Griffin

MIAMI, Sept. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The School Board of Miami-Dade County has announced a new partnership with New Classrooms Innovation Partners, Inc. (New Classrooms) to integrate personalized, competency-based learning into the district's math strategy. This partnership, funded by grants from the Bezos Family Foundation and Ken Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel and the founder of Griffin Catalyst, will bring this innovative educational approach to approximately 75 schools across Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) over the next three years.

"We are committed to meeting each student where they are and guiding them to reach their full potential. Our partnership with New Classrooms exemplifies this commitment, introducing innovative approaches that personalize learning and empower our educators to better support every learner's unique journey," said Cristian Carranza, Administrative Director, Division of Academics at M-DCPS.

Established in 2011, New Classrooms is a national leader in the movement to design, develop, and implement innovative learning solutions. Its most recent learning solution, Teach to One Roadmaps, supports students beginning in grade 4 to achieve proficiency in math by providing a tailored, assessment-based learning path. Multiple external research studies have found that performance on Roadmaps is highly correlated with performance on state assessments. As part of this project, New Classrooms will develop a custom version of Roadmaps specifically for M-DCPS. This will ensure the platform is aligned with M-DCPS instructional and pacing guides, as well as Florida's B.E.S.T. standards.

"It's a true privilege to partner with a district so deeply committed to innovation and student success. Their leadership and dedication make them a standout example of what's possible in public education," said New Classrooms CEO Joel Rose. "We're grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their vision and can't wait to get started." Rose is a graduate of North Miami Beach Senior High School and in 1988 was the elected student advisor to the School Board of Miami-Dade County.

"New Classrooms is reimagining math education to help students reach their full potential," said Griffin. "Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in the classroom, and I am proud to partner with the Bezos Family Foundation to bring this important initiative to students in Miami-Dade County."

Roadmaps generates individualized pathways for each student consisting of the precise pre-, on-, and post-grade skills they need to learn to achieve proficiency and makes recommendations for the skills each individual student is most ready to learn. Each skill comes with a rich array of supportive resources for both students and teachers, including but not limited to worked examples, vocabulary, practice problems, and instructional content from different vendors. Finally, rigorous short-form formative assessments ("exit tickets") – which students can take at any time, in and out of school – are available for each individual math skill to measure student understanding and mastery at the skill level. This gives teachers real-time data they can use to inform instruction.

The project will start in approximately 30 schools in the 2025-26 school year, increasing to approximately 75 by the 2027-2028 school year, with the potential for further expansion thereafter.
