Korea, US set to deepen tech alliance with new MOU

GYEONGJU, North Gyeongsang Province — Korea and the United States are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on technological cooperation on Wednesday, on the sidelines of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) events in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The memorandum comes ahead of a summit between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump, who arrived in Korea Wednesday. It reflects shared efforts to align policies on technology and research as competition intensifies. “The two countries are set to sign the MOU to reinforce cooperation in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and synthetic biology, as their strategic importance grows,” the Ministry of Science and ICT said. The agreement commits the two sides to accelerating AI development and innovation and strengthening trusted technological leadership in emerging technologies, and will be signed by Vice Minister Bae Kyung-hoon of the Ministry of Science and ICT and Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
