Samsung to develop energy-saving tech for dryers under US government grant
Samsung Electronics said Thursday it has won a grant from the U.S. government to develop energy-saving technology for clothes dryers jointly with two U.S. research institutions. The U.S. Department of Energy has decided to provide $1.2 million to Samsung Electronics, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of South Carolina for the project, which focuses on using desiccants to improve dryer performance, according to the South Korean tech giant. The three will additionally contribute a combined $1.2 million to the project. The study aims to reduce energy consumption by up to 35 percent compared with vented dryer models that emit humid air to shorten drying time. Samsung Electronics said clothes dryers using the new technology will be designed to be installed without separate construction work, allowing greater flexibility across different housing environments. "The research project marks a practical opportunity to develop innovative energy-saving technology into solutions that consumers can directly experience," the company said in a release.Weiter zum vollständigen Artikel bei Korea Times
