Instagram 'Teen Accounts' get default PG-13 settings

Meta announced Tuesday that it is filtering content on Instagram accounts for teens based on PG-13 movie ratings by default. The changes come a little over a year after the company — which also owns Facebook — introduced "Teen accounts" with built-in restrictions for younger users and parental control. Now, these accounts will automatically default to filter content so the teen users will see only what they'd typically see in a PG-13 movie. Parents can then adjust those settings, and teens won't be able to opt out without a parents' permission. "Just like you might see some suggestive content or hear some strong language in a PG-13 movie, teens may occasionally see something like that on Instagram — but we're going to keep doing all we can to keep those instances as rare as possible," a news release from Meta said. "We recognize no system is perfect, and we're committed to improving over time.
